Locally Led Conservation

What is the West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District?

West Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District is a state-designated special district.  Our mission is “To conserve, protect and develop soil and water resources; to help with the development of all natural resources in west county for the benefit of the people, wildlife and the environment.”

West Multnomah SWCD has a seven-member Board of Directors which includes representatives of five geographic zones, and two at-large Directors. Directors are elected by the public on the general ballot, and serve without pay. The Board also appoints Associate Directors to assist with projects. Our District encompasses all of Multnomah County west of the Willamette River. It also includes all of Sauvie Island, by special agreement with Columbia County SWCD.  Ross Island, in the Willamette River is in the East Multnomah SWCD.

Coming from the northern part of the District, you should take Highway 30 towards Portland, turn right onto NW Saint Helens Road.  When you approach an intersection with a signal light, you will see Montgomery Park ahead of you.  You will want to turn up the hill to the right (not sharp right), then pull into the parking lot at the top of the hill on your left.

Co-located at the same office are the East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District, and the field office of the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
